This marvellous villa is immersed in Tolfa Natural Park in Bassano Romano about 40 km from the centre of Rome. The villa belongs to Prince Eugenio Ruspoli, part of the ancient and noble Italian Ruspoli family. The origins of the Ruspoli family go back to the thirteenth century in Florence, descending directly from the Marescotti family from Bologna to Mario Scoteo in the ninteenth century A.D. In the seventeenth century, Vittoria Ruspoli of the Marchesi from Cerveteri, the last descendent of the family, transferred to Rome and married Sforza Vicino Marescotti IV ,Count of Vignanello, descendent of the Farnesi family by both mother and father. The son of Vittoria would take the surname and crest of the Ruspoli in order to guarantee the continuity of the family. In 1708, Vittoria’s nephew, Francesco Ruspoli, at the head of the Ruspoli cavalry regiment, fought to defend the Vatican City. In 1709 they forced the Austrians to retreat, and to thank them, Pope Clemente XI turned the Marchesato of Cerveteri into a princedom, nominating Francesco I as Prince of Cerveteri. Since then, the Ruspoli have lived between Vignanello, Cerveteri and the Palazzo Ruspoli in Rome, where the now head of the family, Prince Francesco Ruspoli Maria VI, resides. Outside there is a large yard with a swimming pool and a fantastic view of Bracciano lake, as well as a patio with dining and sitting areas.
